Hyderabad: The skyway cable car project linking the Qutb Shahi Tombs with Golconda Fort has advanced after sustained representation by AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi. The government has cleared the project with an estimated cost of ₹150 crore. It aims to complete the work by the end of 2026.
Earlier, AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi raised the issue in the Assembly. As a result, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy instructed the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to implement the project. Soon after the clearance, officials from the Archaeological Survey of India, Telangana Tourism Department, GHMC, HMDA and the Aga Khan Trust for Culture carried out a joint survey. They later submitted a detailed report.
Three firms shortlisted for Golconda cable car project
In August 2025, the government invited proposals and shortlisted three firms. These include a listed public sector company on the National Stock Exchange, an infrastructure company from Nagpur, and another from Mumbai. Currently, the technical committee is reviewing the bids, and the final selection will be announced shortly.
Meanwhile, Karwan MLA Kausar Mohiuddin welcomed the project. He said it would strengthen tourism in Hyderabad. Moreover, he noted that a cable car link between Golconda Fort and the Qutb Shahi Tombs would attract thousands of visitors. This, he added, would give a major boost to heritage tourism in the Old City.
