Hyderabad: Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said on Tuesday that good roads will drive jobs to rural Telangana. He urged the government to treat road development as its top priority.
He spoke at the Infrastructure and Capital Works Ministers’ Committee meeting. Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka chaired the session at the Secretariat.
Venkat Reddy said strong road links from Hyderabad to district and mandal centres would pull industries into villages. This, he said, would create local employment and reduce migration.
“People should feel confident that jobs exist across Telangana, not just in the capital,” he said.
He called roads “the first priority for people” and said they affect daily life directly. Good roads, he added, support public transport, emergency services, and public trust in governance. “In emergencies, the speed of an ambulance is judged by the quality of roads,” he noted. Therefore, he said, the government must invest without delay.
The Minister called for quick execution of road projects under the Hybrid Annuity Model. He promised accident-free roads across Telangana within three years. However, he also warned that slow payments to contractors could derail progress. Timely payments, he said, are essential to build confidence and keep work on track.
Venkat Reddy blamed the previous government for poor financial planning. According to him, this had stalled road projects across departments. He said the current administration would fix these issues with a people-first approach.
Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, D. Sridhar Babu, and Seethakka also attended the meeting. Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao and senior officials from key departments were present.
