Hyderabad: After decades of demand, residents of Sri Ram Nagar colony in Banjara Hills have finally secured a government school. GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi intervened directly to make it happen.
The colony, home to over 7,000 residents, lacked a school for years. Children had to walk long distances, and many dropped out due to costly private school fees. Earlier this year, locals raised the issue with the Mayor. Recalling Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s words “education is the only path to eradicate poverty” she acted promptly.
Officials identified a 240-square-yard government plot inside the colony. The land, valued at ₹4 crore, was cleared for school use. On Wednesday, Shaikpet revenue staff handed over the site documents to the Education Department. The Mayor was present during the handover.
Collector to fund construction of government school Sri Ram Nagar
Officials have submitted plans for a government primary school. The District Collector’s office will fund the construction, which is expected to begin soon.
Residents expressed relief and gratitude. “We asked many leaders for years, but nothing happened. Thanks to the Mayor, our children will now study near home,” said a local resident.
