Hyderabad: The High Court dismissed election violation case against CM Revanth Reddy, clearing him of charges linked to an alleged breach of the Election Code. Justice K. Laxman delivered the order on Monday after reviewing a petition filed by the Chief Minister seeking dismissal of the case.
The case stemmed from an October 2019 complaint lodged at Garidepalli police station in Suryapet district. Revanth Reddy challenged the proceedings, arguing that the allegations lacked merit. The High Court accepted his plea and closed the matter.
In a separate development, the Supreme Court censured petitioner Peddiraju over an SC and ST atrocity case he had filed against the Chief Minister. A bench led by Chief Justice B.R. Gavai directed him to submit a written apology to Justice Mousami Bhattacharya of the High Court.
Earlier, the Telangana High Court had already dismissed Peddiraju’s case. Dissatisfied, he filed a transfer petition to move the matter to the Supreme Court’s Nagpur bench. During the hearing, the Supreme Court expressed displeasure at the conduct of Peddiraju and the Advocate on Record, criticising inappropriate remarks made about Justice Bhattacharya.
The bench instructed Peddiraju to file the affidavit of apology within one week. It allowed four weeks before any further hearing and left the matter of accepting the apology to Justice Bhattacharya’s discretion.
