HYDERABAD: The Telangana government is set to inaugurate its first dedicated HYDRA police station on May 8, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy scheduled to preside over the launch. The HYDRA initiative—launched to combat illegal constructions, protect lakes, parks, and government lands—has gained significant traction in Hyderabad and is now in demand across other districts.
The HYDRA (Hyderabad District Revenue Anti-Encroachment Authority) force, which has already made headlines for razing unauthorised buildings and reclaiming public land, is now being granted enhanced enforcement powers.
As part of this, the establishment of HYDRA police stations marks a key development. Citizens and officials will now be able to lodge complaints related to land grabbing, park encroachments, and lake violations directly at these dedicated stations.
HYDRA Commissioner Ranganath had previously announced plans for this specialised enforcement arm. Currently, land-related offences are being acted upon by HYDRA based on FIRs filed at regular police stations. Going forward, these cases may be formally transferred to HYDRA stations for direct action.
The government’s move is seen as a firm response to widespread complaints about land encroachments and unauthorised developments, particularly in and around Hyderabad.
The launch of the first HYDRA police station is expected to serve as a model for similar setups in other districts where demand is steadily growing.
