Hyderabad: Jagadgirigutta police on Thursday arrested a 21-year-old woman for a house theft involving gold and silver jewellery worth ₹2.21 lakh. The accused, identified as Baby alias Arohi, is a resident of Madhuranagar, Sanathnagar and originally from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
On July 18, the complainant, Vipparthi Chiranjeevi, returned to his residence in Allwyn Colony to discover that 22.3 tolas of gold ornaments and 5 tolas of silver anklets had been stolen. The intruder had accessed the home using a key hidden under a helmet at the entrance.
Investigation teams from Jagadgirigutta PS and CCS Balanagar scanned CCTV footage and identified a woman loitering suspiciously. With the help of Borabanda Police, they matched the suspect’s image to a previous offender and tracked her to her residence.
During interrogation, Arohi confessed to the theft, revealing she had learned during her earlier job as a door-to-door saleswoman that many residents hid house keys in common outdoor spots. Financially strained and allegedly influenced by a Facebook acquaintance from Karnataka, she began targeting locked homes.
She used the hidden key to access the complainant’s home, found the almirah key inside, and fled with jewellery. She was previously jailed in two similar cases under Borabanda PS and had been out on bail since June 28.
Recovered items include multiple gold ornaments, silver pieces, a phone, and a black bag, valued at ₹2.21 lakh.
Police teams led by ACP P. Naresh Reddy and SHO K. Narshima were commended for their swift action.
