Kaleshwaram project report flags structural flaws and irregularities; Congress targets BRS, MEIL over ₹1 lakh crore project
Hyderabad: Telangana Minister Vivek Venkataswamy warned of tough action against those involved in decision-making on the Kaleshwaram project, citing serious findings in the Justice PC Ghosh Commission’s report.
The Congress government alleged that the previous BRS regime handed the ₹1 lakh crore project to Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) solely for commission benefits. Despite massive spending, the project delivered little public benefit, the minister said.
Structural failures at Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla barrages—including sinking pillars and engineering lapses—have intensified scrutiny. The PC Ghosh Commission, which investigated the project over 15 months and examined 119 witnesses, submitted its 650-page, three-volume report on August 1.
The report flagged irregularities such as bypassing scientific tests, executing construction without cabinet approval, and direct involvement of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and ex-ministers T. Harish Rao and Etela Rajender.
Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy handed the report to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. A study committee has since been formed. Cabinet members are set to discuss the findings in tomorrow’s meeting, following which the report may be sent to the Advocate General for legal opinion and placed before the Assembly.
