MLC Kavitha urges Miss World pageant deferment amid ‘wartime’ atmosphere

Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president and MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha has appealed to the state government to postpone the upcoming Miss World pageant, arguing that it sends the wrong message at a time when the country is in a tense, wartime-like situation.

Drawing parallels with the suspension of the Indian Premier League, Kavitha said holding a beauty contest under the shadow of military conflict would reflect poorly on Telangana. “If such an event is held while the nation is gripped by a war atmosphere, it would tarnish the state’s image,” she remarked, urging the government to act with discretion and avoid sending misleading signals.

Kavitha was speaking at a massive rally led by Telangana Jagruthi in support of Operation Sindoor, from Indira Park to RTC Crossroads. She paid floral tributes to soldier Murali Naik, who was martyred in a recent Pakistani attack at the border, standing beside his portrait as the crowd marched in solidarity with the Indian Army.

Addressing the gathering, she praised the military’s decisive action in demolishing nine terrorist camps across Pakistan under Operation Sindoor. “The army provides us safety. Our rally was meant to boost their morale,” she said, noting that Indian forces had foiled targeted attacks on airports and responded with strength.

Calling for similar rallies across all districts, she declared, “This is a righteous war. India never initiates wrongdoing. We have acted with integrity, destroying only terrorist bases without touching Pakistan’s common citizens.”

On a separate note, when asked about the state government’s performance, Kavitha took aim at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, saying that if he cannot raise the state’s revenues or fulfil the Congress party’s poll promises, he should step down. She accused him of administrative failure and claimed that both government employees and the public were merely asking for what was promised in the manifesto, not seeking undue favours.

She also alleged that the CM’s statements were often incoherent and had embarrassed the state. “People are laughing at the way he speaks. It’s affecting Telangana’s dignity,” she commented sharply.
