Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president and MLC Kavitha lashed out at Teenmar Mallanna on Sunday, questioning his comments on the BC movement and criticising the government for not acting against him. Referring to the attack on Mallanna’s office allegedly by Jagruthi activists, she said the focus should instead be on why he was targeting her for an ordinance she neither issued nor brought.
Kavitha said that even 24 hours after Teenmar Mallanna’s controversial remarks, the government had taken no action. In contrast, she pointed out, party workers are swiftly arrested over social media posts. She linked the state’s growing violence against women to this kind of selective inaction.
Directly addressing Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Kavitha questioned the kind of security extended to MLCs and asked what that meant for ordinary women. She denied ever mentioning Teenmar Mallanna and demanded to know why he was repeatedly targeting her.
Declaring she would not back down, Kavitha said she would continue to fight and that any citizen could raise public issues. She claimed the BC movement by Jagruthi aimed precisely at such advocacy. Calling on intellectuals to speak out, she warned that tolerating such behaviour would worsen matters.
She asserted that Telangana has a tradition of respecting women and said abusive language against women in politics would deter others from entering public life. She warned Teenmar Mallanna that Telangana’s women would not remain silent if he continued to speak recklessly and added that using the BC name to justify abusive rhetoric was unacceptable.
