Kavitha warns protest over Palamuru project displacement, slams Telangana government in Nalgonda speech
Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha warned that her organisation would protest in front of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s residence if the government failed to resolve the problems of families displaced by the Kistaram Palli and Nakkalagandi projects under the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. She accused the Congress government of ignoring displaced farmers despite repeated appeals.
During her visit to Nalgonda on Wednesday for the Jagruthi Janam Baata programme, Kavitha said officials neglected the collapse of the Sunkishala retaining wall. “Both Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy belong to Nalgonda, yet they stayed silent,” she remarked.
Kavitha questions Congress response to local issues
The Jagruthi chief criticised the Congress for failing to address public issues after nearly two years in power. “They targeted KCR to gain power but now ignore the same concerns,” she said. Nalgonda, a district with a legacy of resistance, still faces drinking water and irrigation shortages despite being near Nagarjuna Sagar.
She demanded that the government purchase cotton with 20% moisture and offer immediate relief to farmers. Pointing to Nalgonda district hospital, Kavitha said it lacks even basic infrastructure and funds for daily needs. She praised doctors and nurses who continue to serve patients despite these challenges. Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, she urged, must introduce epidural facilities at the hospital, which handles nearly 500 deliveries each month.
Jagruthi chief seeks action and worker release
Mocking Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Kavitha said he decided to visit the hospital only after learning of her inspection. She demanded the immediate release of Jagruthi activists arrested for putting up banners and hoardings.
According to her, the government opened only 320 paddy procurement centres instead of the required 1,000 in Nalgonda. “They are avoiding new centres to skip paying bonuses,” she said. Kavitha urged Minister Komatireddy to focus on the Sunkishala wall repairs, hospital upgrades, and timely grain procurement.
She also called for telemetry systems to monitor Krishna river water levels. In addition, she requested district collectors to visit tribal hamlets affected by the Nakkalagandi project and directly address farmers’ grievances.
Kavitha demands clarity on land, power, and infrastructure
Kavitha asked the government to explain its plans for Bhoodan lands and the delay in completing Yadadri Thermal Power Plant. She demanded that the state provide jobs and livelihood support to families who lost land to the project.
In Miryalaguda, Kavitha called for setting up a 100-metric-tonne FCI godown, a new ring road, and an industrial hub. She also criticised the absence of an underground drainage system in Nalgonda and announced a Jagruthi committee to fight for civic improvements.
“Since Komatireddy oversees Roads, he must complete the drainage system and lay new roads,” she said. Kavitha concluded that Telangana Jagruthi would continue fighting for opportunity, power, and self-respect, along with BC reservations and social justice.
