KCR skipped Telangana Formation Day, owes apology: Fishermen Corporation chief

Hyderabad: Telangana Fishermen Corporation chairman Mettu Sai Kumar tore into former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday, accusing the father-son duo of disrespecting the spirit of Telangana Formation Day by giving the celebrations a miss.

Speaking to the media, Sai Kumar questioned why KCR, despite being both the former head of state and BRS president, chose to stay silent and absent during an occasion he once claimed as a personal and political milestone. “Is Telangana Formation Day invisible to KCR now?” he asked pointedly.

Turning his criticism to KTR, Sai Kumar said that those who once laid their lives on the line for Telangana are now nowhere to be seen. “Why is the man who vowed to stake everything for this state now hiding in Texas?” he said, adding that KTR had allegedly purchased a villa abroad to dodge public scrutiny.

Taking a dig at KTR’s recent remarks from the US, Sai Kumar mocked his reference to a town called “Ginton” in Texas, saying, “He’s busy mispronouncing foreign names while ignoring his own homeland. Did no district in Telangana occur to him?”

Accusing BRS leaders of deliberately snubbing the Formation Day, he called it a betrayal of the very movement the party was born from. “How can the party that claimed to be born for Telangana ignore the day that gave the state its identity?” he said.

He also claimed that KTR’s foreign visit was an attempt to broker settlements in sensitive cases like phone tapping, and said no foreign trip could shield him from accountability.

Sai Kumar demanded an unconditional public apology from both KCR and KTR for what he called a grave insult to the people of Telangana. “Even if they dodge responsibility abroad, the blessings of the people are firmly with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy,” he said.

Taking a swipe at BRS leader Prabhakar Reddy, he said the latter had no moral ground to criticise the Congress government and instead ought to be advising his own party leadership on how to regain public trust.

He concluded by asserting that while BRS currently holds opposition status, people will ensure they don’t even retain that in 2028.
