Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Wednesday stated that the party would decide its position on the Vice President election independently, free from any national alliance pressure.
Speaking at his residence, he emphasised that BRS answered only to the people of Telangana. “Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi are not our bosses. The people of Telangana are our only bosses,” he said.
Although both NDA and INDIA blocs had announced their candidates, Rama Rao pointed out that no one had reached out to BRS for support. He said party leaders would consult and declare their stand closer to the election.
Dismissing Congress as a “minor party,” he said BRS would oppose any nominee suggested by chief minister Revanth Reddy. It was, he said, unrealistic to expect his party’s support.
Rama Rao criticised national parties for failing to nominate a backward class candidate from Telangana. Proposing social scientist Kancha Ilaiah as a deserving choice, he challenged their commitment to representation.
He accused both alliances of neglecting Telangana’s needs. Unless national leaders acted on urgent demands, BRS would withhold support. “If two lakh tonnes of fertilisers are supplied to Telangana before September 9, BRS will respond positively to that party’s candidate,” he said.
