KTR dares Rahul Gandhi to seek fresh mandate for defected MLAs

Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao on Sunday challenged Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to prove his commitment to electoral democracy by making ten defected BRS legislators resign and seek a fresh mandate.

The challenge followed Gandhi’s statement in Parliament, where he held up a copy of the Constitution and declared that “India’s election system is dead.” KTR said Gandhi’s silence on large-scale defections in Telangana exposed a gap between rhetoric and action. He alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy engineered the defections with the knowledge of the Congress high command.

Rama Rao noted that despite a reprimand from the Supreme Court, Congress had not initiated disciplinary action. He accused the party of violating its own manifesto promise to enforce a strict anti-defection law.

In a direct message, KTR dares Rahul Gandhi to act. “If you truly believe in democracy, make them resign and contest again. Are you ready to practice what you preach, @RahulGandhi?” he asked.
