KTR criticizes Congress as Telangana's groundwater drops by 2.08m in four months, affecting 32 districts.

KTR Blames Congress for Telangana Groundwater Crisis

HYDERABAD, February 9: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) has raised concerns over the declining groundwater levels in Telangana, attributing the issue to the current Congress government’s negligence. He highlighted that, within a span of four months, the groundwater table has fallen by approximately 2.08 meters, affecting 32 districts across the state. This decline poses potential risks to both agricultural activities and drinking water availability.

KTR criticised the government’s approach towards key irrigation projects, alleging that political vendettas have led to the neglect of significant initiatives like the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. He claimed that, during the previous administration, efforts were made to ensure water bodies such as tanks, ponds, and streams were adequately filled through these projects. In contrast, he accused the current government of abandoning these projects, resulting in drying water bodies and declining groundwater levels.

Emphasising the gravity of the situation, KTR urged the people of Telangana to reflect on the current state of affairs. He pointed out that, in October of the previous year, the average groundwater level was at a depth of 5.38 meters below the surface. By January of this year, it had dropped to 7.46 meters, indicating a significant decline over a short period.

KTR’s remarks underscore the pressing concerns
regarding water resource management in Telangana and highlight the need for effective governance to address these challenges.
