HYDERABAD: Tension prevailed near the Telangana Assembly on Tuesday as lawyers attempted to lay siege to the premises demanding job security and justice in the murder case of advocate Errababu Israel. The protest was led by the Telangana Advocates JAC.
Lawyers marched towards the Assembly expressing their outrage over the killing of advocate Israel. They demanded the enactment of a special law for the protection of lawyers and immediate implementation of job security measures. As they advanced towards the Assembly, police forces intervened and tried to prevent their march.
A scuffle broke out between the protesting lawyers and the police, resulting in a tense situation. Eventually, the police detained several protesting lawyers and cleared them from the Assembly premises.
The protest comes in the wake of the murder of advocate Israel, which occurred on Monday in New Maruthinagar under Santosh Nagar limits in Hyderabad. According to reports, advocate Israel had lodged a complaint against an electrician named Dastagiri, accusing him of harassing a woman. Allegedly, in retaliation, Dastagiri attacked Israel with a knife. Advocate Israel succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital.
