Hyderabad: The BC bandh demanding a 42 per cent BC quota in local bodies continued across Telangana on Saturday with full participation from community organisations.
Mahesh Kumar Goud joins the BC bandh rally
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief Mahesh Kumar Goud offered floral tributes to Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s statue at Tank Bund. Later, he joined the rally organised by the Amberpet Congress unit in support of the bandh.
Speaking to reporters, Goud said several ministers had joined the protest. He added that he had monitored the agitation since morning. Bus services stopped in many places across the state, he said.
According to him, the bandh drew voluntary support because the demand for a 42 per cent BC quota was fair and justified.
TPCC chief urges Centre to act on BC quota bill
Goud said no political party had shown the same sincerity toward BC reservations as the Congress. The state government, he explained, had already conducted a scientific caste census and issued a government order to implement BC reservations. Courts later stayed the order.
He urged the central government to act without delay and approve the BC reservations bill. He also said he and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy would soon meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to press the demand.
Goud noted that the government planned to conduct local body elections with 42 per cent BC reservations. He said a final decision would follow a detailed review of all practical aspects.
