Hyderabad: Minister Mohammed Azharuddin received the families of the Umrah accident victims who reached Madinah to participate in the funeral rites. He assured them of full support and supervised their travel and accommodation, which the Minority Welfare Department arranged with care. Moreover, his team guided them through identification procedures and DNA verification required by local authorities.
The minister arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday night as instructed by the Telangana government. He began coordinating relief work immediately after landing. Minorities Welfare Secretary B. Shafiullah and AIMIM MLA Majid Hussain accompanied him, and the team started implementing support measures without delay. Because the accident caused deep distress, officials focused on responding quickly and sensitively.
Umrah accident victims’ families supported through coordinated action
The Umrah accident victims received sustained assistance as Azharuddin maintained close coordination with the Consul General of India in Jeddah, Fahad Ahmed Khan Suri. He also worked with senior Saudi officials handling hospital processes, documentation and repatriation-linked requirements. Earlier, he met Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dr Suhel Ajaz Khan in Riyadh and requested additional facilitation to speed up formalities.
Officials said the minister used personal contacts in Saudi Arabia to secure permissions quickly. As a result, agencies handling logistics, transport and legal verification processed several steps faster. The delegation reviewed each stage to avoid delays and provide clarity to grieving families. Furthermore, the team ensured constant communication with volunteers and local coordinators.
