Minister Jupally counters KTR over defections and corruption charges

Hyderabad: Tourism, Culture and Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said party defection cases were already in court and that the Speaker would decide them as per law. At Gandhi Bhavan, he strongly criticised BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao for his remarks against Congress MLAs.

Jupally asked whether KTR forgot that the BRS admitted legislators from rival parties while in power. He argued it was ironic to now question defections after benefiting from the same practice. He accused the BRS of looting thousands of crores during its rule. He also asked why KTR had remained silent on corruption allegations made by party leader K. Kavitha.

He reminded that KTR once predicted the fall of the Congress government. Jupally said such remarks showed an intent to destabilise democracy. He also questioned what K. Chandrashekar Rao had done during his tenure to uphold the aspirations of Telangana martyrs.

Jupally counters KTR while defending his own remarks

The Minister alleged that the KCR family acted without accountability both during the agitation and while in power. He said KTR’s criticism of Congress was an attempt to divert attention. According to him, the BRS, which won zero Parliament seats, would disappear in the coming local polls.

Clarifying his remarks in Boath constituency of Adilabad district, Jupally said BRS distorted his words on social media. He explained that during election campaigns he never offered false promises because no candidate could guarantee victory or government formation. Instead, he told voters he would work honestly if elected.

Jupally said he contested seven times and won six, crediting people’s support to his track record. He stressed that even without campaign promises he completed projects, which brought him repeated victories. He accused BRS of twisting his statements for political gain.

The Minister added that no MLA was a child to be forced into decisions. Any case of defection, he said, would be decided by the Speaker in line with law. He recalled that he too had once joined BRS from Congress during the Telangana movement, but later returned due to changing political conditions. “I shifted for Telangana’s cause, not for personal gain,” he said.

MLAs Yanam Srinivas Reddy and Megha Reddy also attended the press conference.
