Hyderabad: Telangana Handlooms Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for entrusting him with portfolios representing both farmers and weavers, during the launch of a handloom day exhibition at People’s Plaza in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Marking National Handloom Day, the exhibition opened at Necklace Road and will continue until August 17. Thummala inaugurated the event and toured the stalls, inspecting a range of handloom products and lauding the quality and craftsmanship on display.

The minister visited stalls set up by the Prisons Department and commended their textile offerings. He also reviewed award-winning products made by recipients of the Konda Laxman Bapuji Handloom Awards and praised their work. During the event, the Telangana Authentic Weaves logo and the Trilinga Saree were also unveiled.
Speaking at the venue, Principal Secretary for Textiles Shailaja Ramaiyer said the government was committed to reviving endangered handloom traditions. She highlighted state initiatives such as the two-year Nethanna Savings Scheme and a ₹5 lakh insurance payout for families of deceased weavers under the Nethanna Bima programme.
She added that ₹33 crore had been released to implement the handloom loan waiver announced by the Chief Minister in March.
