Hyderabad: Traffic was brought to a standstill on National Highway 44 (NH-44) when a patch of road at Bhiknoor in Kamareddy district was washed away in flash floods. The event caused a massive traffic congestion as cars were stranded for nearly 12 km between Jangampally and Tekriyal on the Hyderabad–Nagpur highway.
Trffic Alert was initiated by officials later Wednesday evening when they began diverting vehicles on other routes. Officials confirmed that both heavy-duty vehicles and light vehicles were diverted in a bid to ease congestion.
NH-44 cut off, diversions for heavy vehicles and light vehicles
According to police, those heavy vehicles heading towards Adilabad from Hyderabad were directed at Medchal checkpost. From there it goes via Siddipet, Karimnagar, Jagtial, Korutla, Metpalli, and Armur before merging on highway towards Adilabad.
Other trains on the same route were diverted at Toopran. Diversion route includes Medchal, Toopran, Siddipet, Karimnagar, Jagtial, Korutla, Metpally, and then connecting up at Armur and Adil
A piece of road on NH-44 around Kamareddy, Dichpally, and Armoor was washed away, forcing traffic officials to take action before pile-ups happened. Police vehicles were deployed at diversions in a bid to manage traffic flow and direct drivers
Warning for drivers
Police urged commuters to use strictly the diversion routes and prepare their journeys beforehand. “Long distance travelers as well as heavy vehicles should use rerouted routes not to make congestion worse,” officials said.
The disruption has put thousands of vehicles on route between Hyderabad and Nagpur on hold. With more heavy rain forecast in Telangana in coming days, officials stated diversions may remain in effect until repair works on the damaged highway are complete.
