Hyderabad: Chaos broke out outside Nizam College in Basheerbagh Friday morning as dozens of students sat down in protest, blocking the main road. The reason: they weren’t allowed inside the college premises before 9 a.m. to appear for their semester exams.
Students, some of whom had travelled from far-off places, alleged the principal had ordered security to keep the gates shut until the scheduled time, leaving them stranded outside. Furious, they staged a sit-in at the college entrance, shouting slogans against the administration. Their complaint—this wasn’t just mismanagement, it was deliberate obstruction.
“Even basic access was denied. We weren’t late. We came early,” said one protestor. They accused the principal of high-handedness and demanded she drop what they called a rigid stance.
The blockade soon spilled into the road. Traffic piled up quickly. Commuters were stuck as the jam spread across Basheerbagh junction. Traffic police arrived, tried to defuse the situation, and eventually got the students to clear the path. Vehicles were diverted and flow was restored after some time.
