Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has directed the Finance Department to immediately clear ₹303 crore in pending Overseas Scholarship dues for SC, ST, BC, OC, and Minority students. He instructed officials to release the entire amount covering all arrears from 2022 to date.
This decision offers long-awaited relief to thousands of families whose children are studying abroad. Many students from low- and middle-income households have been under intense financial and mental stress due to the prolonged non-payment of scholarship funds, a backlog that began under the previous administration.
The lack of disbursement had forced many students and parents into debt, even as rising living costs abroad and new regulatory restrictions in countries like the U.S. and U.K. compounded the pressure. Students now face limited options for part-time work, while education and housing expenses continue to rise.
Recognising the urgency, Bhatti prioritised the issue and ordered an immediate release of funds. Each eligible student is expected to receive up to ₹20 lakhs under the scheme.
Families welcomed the move, stating that the government’s decision would help students stay focused on their academic goals without the burden of unpaid dues. Several overseas students also expressed gratitude, saying the timely support would allow them to complete their studies and return to serve the state and nation.
