Polling concludes in Jubilee Hills by-election amid tight security

Hyderabad: Polling for the Jubilee Hills by-election concluded at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, with officials permitting all voters in queue by closing time to cast their ballots. The process, held under heavy security, remained largely peaceful despite sporadic incidents of tension.

One such incident occurred at Yusufguda Mahbub Function Hall, where Congress workers allegedly attacked Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) supporters protesting against suspected fraudulent voter ID cards. Police intervened and brought the situation under control, diffusing tensions between the two party cadres. BRS workers also raised slogans against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing the Congress of orchestrating electoral misconduct.

By 5 p.m., the voter turnout stood at 47.16 percent, with the final figure expected to reach approximately 50 percent. Vote counting is scheduled for November 14.

The by-election was necessitated by the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath. In the fray are Maganti Sunitha of the BRS, Congress candidate Naveen Yadav, and BJP nominee Lankala Deepak Reddy.

The constituency comprises 4,01,365 registered voters, including 2,08,561 men, 1,92,779 women, and 25 others. For the bypoll, officials set up 407 polling booths across 139 polling centers. A total of 58 candidates contested the election.
