Hyderabad: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Wednesday led Praja Palana Dinotsavam celebrations in Siddipet district and saluted Telangana martyrs. He offered tributes at Byranpalli, where hundreds lost their lives in the firing of August 27, 1948.
The Minister said September 17, once observed as Telangana Liberation Day, is now marked as Praja Palana Dinotsavam. He stressed that under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the government is advancing the aspirations of water, funds and jobs that shaped the Telangana movement.

Prabhakar recalled that the Congress government took office on December 7, 2023. Within two days, it launched free RTC bus travel for women, a scheme that has already crossed 200 crore journeys. In addition, Aarogyasri health cover rose from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh. The government also expanded welfare by offering 200 units of free power and clearing ration card backlogs.
He said one crore women will benefit from zero-interest loans through self-help groups. Moreover, every family now receives fine rice. Farmers, he noted, secured ₹9,000 crore under Rythu Bharosa and ₹23,000 crore in loan waivers. The government further announced a ₹500 per quintal bonus for fine paddy.
The Minister announced 3,500 Indiramma houses for each constituency. At the same time, the administration launched revenue reforms through the Bhoo Bharati system and appointed village revenue officers. He promised to complete the pending Amaraveerula Stupam memorial and honoured leaders such as Chakali Ailamma and Ravi Narayan Reddy. He added that Telangana’s anthem is now sung as the state song.
Prabhakar said education is the government’s top priority. Therefore, he called for stronger government schools, noting that he, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao and TGPSC chairman Venkatesham all studied in them. Finally, he congratulated Siddipet district for ranking first in the plantation drive, where every government employee planted a sapling.
