Hyderabad: Telangana Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar urged private hospitals to resume Aarogyasri services, stressing poor patients’ urgent needs.
He released a statement on Wednesday. Soon after assuming office, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy raised the Aarogyasri medical limit from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh.
The minister said the state paid ₹1,779 crore to private hospitals in the past 21 months. Moreover, the government raised charges for 1,375 procedures by over 22 percent on average. In addition, it included 163 advanced treatments in the scheme.
Minister presses hospitals on Aarogyasri services
Prabhakar explained that the government allocated ₹487.29 crore for new medical packages. As a result, poor patients could access costly treatments without delay.
He contrasted past and present payments. Between 2014 and November 2023, the previous government paid ₹57 crore a month on average. However, from December 2023, the present government raised monthly payments to ₹75 crore.
The minister said Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha held regular consultations with private hospital managements. Meanwhile, the government released ₹100 crore within two days, and hospitals already received the funds.
Prabhakar confirmed that the government would clear pending dues in phases. Therefore, he appealed to hospital managements to consider poor patients’ hardships and immediately restore Aarogyasri services.
