Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy ordered officials to speed up flood relief in Telangana and submit reports on losses within two days. He also directed them to prepare a detailed representation on pending central assistance, to be submitted in Delhi on September 4.
The Chief Minister reviewed flood damage and instructed departments to repair roads, buildings, breached ponds, and submerged substations. He expressed displeasure at the insufficient usage of State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) allocations and warned that officials would face action for any neglect.
Revanth Reddy asked HMDA and district authorities to accelerate repair works and release compensation quickly. He sanctioned ₹10 crore for the most affected districts and ₹5 crore for those with minor damage.
Accountability on central assistance
The CM demanded a report on compensation paid during last year’s floods. He also asked for details of central aid still pending for Khammam and Warangal districts. He directed the officials to compile a sector-wise report on losses in agriculture, irrigation, health, electricity, and other departments.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka will lead a team to Delhi on September 4. The delegation will present two reports to Union Ministers. According to the CM, accurate damage assessment is crucial to secure central aid for flood relief in Telangana.
Orders on water bodies and agriculture
Officials reported that 257 streams and ponds were damaged. The Chief Minister criticised the Minor Irrigation Department for its inaction. He directed them to use centrally sponsored schemes like RRR and PM Krishi Sinchayee Yojana for restoration.
He also asked Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy to convene a meeting on reviving Water Users Associations. Revanth Reddy recalled their role in tank safety and sought a fresh proposal to address post-flood challenges.
Agriculture officials reported crop loss across 2.36 lakh acres in 82 mandals. The CM ordered documentation of these losses within 48 hours. He also directed R&B, Panchayati Raj, Animal Husbandry, and Rural Water Supply departments to submit individual impact reports for submission to the Centre.
Energy and civic infrastructure
Energy Department Principal Secretary Naveen Mittal was instructed to replace submerged substations with modern equipment. Similarly, Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao was asked to prepare an action plan for installing and managing street lights in municipalities, gram panchayats, and GHMC areas.
The CM reviewed slaughterhouse operations at Chengicherla, Jiyaguda, and Amberpet. He called for modern machinery, direct supervision, and strict hygiene standards.
SDRF operations and future preparedness
Revanth Reddy spoke with Collectors of Kamareddy, Adilabad, Rajanna Sircilla, and Komaram Bheem Asifabad to review ground conditions. He ordered immediate distribution of relief materials and compensation for affected families.
The Chief Minister praised SDRF teams for rescuing 217 people in 42 operations. He directed Director General of Fire and Disaster Response Nagireddy to enhance SDRF training and asked the Chief Secretary to post more officers in the Disaster Management Department.
Highlighting the risk of untimely rains, the CM warned that future floods may cause greater challenges. Therefore, all Collectors and Superintendents of Police must stay alert and personally monitor relief efforts in the field.
