HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to accelerate the progress of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) and National Highway (NH) projects while conceptualising a future-ready dry port to meet the state’s long-term logistical needs.
In a review held at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) on Friday, the Chief Minister said that the dry port must be strategically located near the RRR and developed with a vision to cater to the next 100 years. He emphasised expediting land acquisition for NHs and finalising the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the southern section of the RRR.
The review gained urgency following directions from the Union Home Secretary during a recent inter-state meeting between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh officials in Delhi. The Chief Minister asked officials to focus on the proposed Hyderabad–Vijayawada Greenfield Highway and ensure its DPR receives preliminary clearance.
He also called for immediate completion of land acquisition for the northern segment of the RRR and asked that the consultancy report for the southern stretch be finalised at the earliest. Revanth Reddy proposed drafting plans to link Hyderabad with Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, via a new national highway. Additionally, he instructed preparation of proposals for a new highway connecting Hyderabad to Mancherial.
The Chief Minister inquired about land acquisition issues hampering highway development across the state. Officials informed him that in several areas, standing crops posed a challenge and that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) was unwilling to compensate for crop damage. Noting that the harvest season was nearly over, the Chief Minister advised initiating discussions with farmers to expedite the acquisition process.
He further directed Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari to liaise with district collectors to resolve local-level issues and ensure technical or legal obstacles are addressed promptly.
Revanth Reddy also stressed the need to improve radial roads connecting the Outer Ring Road (ORR) with the upcoming RRR, and to expand road networks from the RRR to the Telangana state borders.
The review meeting was attended by CM’s advisors Vem Narender Reddy and Srinivas Raju, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, R&B Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, Special Secretary Harichandan, and senior engineering officials including Tirumala and Jayabharathi.
