Revanth Reddy seeks JICA support for Hyderabad Metro Phase 2, Musi River and road projects

HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy held talks with officials of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Tokyo on Thursday, seeking financial support for major urban infrastructure initiatives, including Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase 2, the Musi River rejuvenation, and the development of radial roads.

Accompanied by a delegation of senior officials, the Chief Minister met JICA Senior Vice President Shohei Hara and other senior executives. During the meeting, he highlighted Telangana’s investor-friendly policies and presented the state’s vision for urban infrastructure development in Hyderabad and its peripheral areas.

The Hyderabad Metro Phase 2 project, estimated at ₹24,269 crore, is being planned as a joint venture between the Government of India and the Telangana government. The state is seeking a loan of ₹11,693 crore—accounting for 48% of the total project cost—from JICA. CM Revanth Reddy assured the agency that Telangana is fully compliant with the Centre’s foreign debt funding regulations.

In addition to the Metro project, the Chief Minister urged JICA to consider financial assistance for the rejuvenation of the Musi River and for the construction of radial roads connecting the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR). He expressed his vision of transforming Hyderabad into a global city on par with international metropolises like New York and Tokyo.

JICA’s Senior Vice President Shohei Hara noted the agency’s longstanding collaboration with Telangana and encouraged the state to continue securing the requisite approvals from the central government for eligible infrastructure projects.

The meeting was also attended by Telangana’s Special Chief Secretary for Industries and IT Jayesh Ranjan, the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary V. Seshadri, Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director NVS Reddy, HMDA Commissioner Sarfraz Ahmed, CM’s Secretary B. Ajith Reddy, along with other senior officials.
