HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is scheduled to visit Chennai to participate in an all-party meeting convened by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
The meeting aims to discuss the proposed delimitation process based on the 2026 census, which has raised concerns among southern states regarding their representation in the Parliament.
Accompanying CM Revanth Reddy on this trip is Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Chief Mahesh Goud. The delegation will depart from Hyderabad to Chennai, where the meeting is set to take place on March 22.
The central government’s plan to undertake the delimitation process based on the 2026 population census has been met with opposition from the Tamil Nadu government. CM Stalin has expressed concerns that such a move could adversely affect the representation and rights of southern states in the Parliament. He advocates for the delimitation to be conducted based on the 1971 census figures and has called for necessary constitutional amendments to facilitate this.
To address these concerns, CM Stalin has extended invitations to the Chief Ministers of seven states to attend the meeting in Chennai on March 22. In response, CM Revanth Reddy and his delegation from Telangana will participate in the discussions to deliberate on the potential implications of the proposed delimitation process.
Security arrangements have been heightened by the police departments of both states to ensure the safety of the visiting dignitaries throughout the duration of the meeting.
