Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy declared that Telangana would not back down until the Centre approved its 42 percent BC reservation bill, asserting that the fight for social justice would continue regardless of political pressure.
Speaking at the Congress-led BC Mahadharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, Revanth said Telangana had undertaken a caste census unparalleled in the country. He noted that the state legislature had passed multiple bills to implement 42 percent BC reservations in education, employment, and local governance, which were then sent to the Centre through the Governor.
Revanth Reddy says BC quota bill vital before local polls, warns Modi government
He pointed out that the High Court had ordered Telangana to complete the local body election process by September 30. In that context, he said, the approval of BC reservation legislation was critical and the Centre had no justification for delaying it.
Revanth Reddy criticised the President’s office for not responding to Telangana’s request for an appointment to discuss the bills. He said it was unfortunate and unacceptable that the state government’s appeal had gone unanswered.
Calling for parliamentary debate on the BC reservation issue, Revanth warned that if the Centre failed to act, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would face political consequences. “If they do not approve the bills, we will bring Modi down from power,” he said.
