Hyderabad: Executives from Eli Lilly, a leading global pharmaceutical company, met Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at the ICCC on Monday. The company announced a ₹9,000 crore investment to build a manufacturing plant and quality centre in Hyderabad.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy congratulated the company for selecting Telangana. He thanked its leadership for trusting the state’s growth and industrial environment. Moreover, he said Hyderabad had evolved into a global city that consistently supports every industrial investor.
Revanth welcomes Eli Lilly investment in Hyderabad
Reddy recalled that Hyderabad became India’s pharma hub when Indira Gandhi established IDPL in the city in 1965. Since then, the city has transformed into India’s pharmaceutical capital. He added that nearly 40% of India’s bulk drugs now come from Hyderabad.
In addition, he noted that most of the country’s COVID-19 vaccines originated from the city. The Chief Minister said his government would further expand the pharma policy to draw more global investors. Furthermore, he announced that Telangana was setting up an Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) in Genome Valley to strengthen research and manufacturing.
Revanth Reddy also stated that the government was establishing a Skill University under Anand Mahindra’s leadership. The new institution, he explained, would train students for industry-ready jobs and support the pharma ecosystem. He added that several senior pharma professionals already serve on the university’s governing board.
Minister Sridhar Babu, Eli Lilly President Patrick Johnson, Lilly India President Vincelo Tucker, Government Special Secretary Sanjay Kumar, and the CM’s Special Secretary Ajith Reddy participated in the meeting.
