Hyderabad: BRS General Secretary RS Praveen Kumar has claimed that the collapse of a pillar at the Medigadda Barrage was not accidental. He alleged it was the result of deliberate sabotage by anti-social elements and demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident.
At a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Saturday, Praveen Kumar questioned why only the Medigadda pillar failed. He pointed out that all three barrages—Medigadda, Annaram, and Sundilla—had survived extreme flooding in 2022.
He criticised the lack of investigation into possible explosions at the site. “An assistant engineer reported explosion-like sounds on 22 October 2023,” he said. “But no one has probed that complaint.” He noted there was no seismic activity in the area and no witness statements collected.
Allegations link sabotage to political motive against KCR
According to Praveen Kumar, the collapse appeared to be an attempt to damage former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s legacy. He alleged that the current government had failed to protect key infrastructure built during BRS rule.
He called for mobile records of key Congress and BJP leaders to be examined. These included Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and BJP leaders Bandi Sanjay and G Kishan Reddy. He urged investigators to trace any suspicious links.
The BRS leader criticised the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) for acting swiftly on a letter from Union Minister Kishan Reddy. He questioned why the agency ignored a recent dam collapse in Uttarakhand.

He said the NDSA’s report, which cited construction and design flaws, was part of a political plan to discredit BRS. Praveen Kumar also dismissed corruption allegations during BRS governance.
He denied rumours that Pragati Bhavan had “golden toilets.” According to him, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, now staying there, had laughed off the claims.
