Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar said on Friday he did not join the party to become a Member of Parliament, countering allegations made by former MLA Guvvala Balaraju.
Speaking at a party meeting in Achampet constituency, Kumar responded to Balaraju’s claim that he was denied the Nagarkurnool MP ticket because of Kumar’s entry into the party. “I joined BRS because I believed in KCR’s leadership and the Telangana movement he led not for any position,” Kumar said.
He recalled that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy once offered him key posts, including the chairmanship of the Telangana Public Service Commission and vice-chairmanship of the Planning Commission, which he declined. “I gave my word to KCR. I stood by him even without power. I never asked for the MP seat,” he said.
Kumar stated he joined politics to serve the weaker sections, not for personal gain. “I left the IPS even when I had seven years of service left. My batchmates are DGPs today. If I had stayed, I could have been one too—but what good would that have done for the people I care about?” he said.
