HYDERABAD: RTC Managing Director and senior IPS officer, Sajjanar, has issued a stern warning to promoters of betting apps, particularly those targeting the youth through social media platforms. In a recent tweet, he cautioned that strict actions would be taken against individuals promoting such applications.
Sajjanar questioned the public, asking how many have reported fake social media influencers promoting betting apps and how many have blocked them. This move comes in the wake of recent incidents where influencers have been arrested for endorsing these apps. Notably, Vizag police arrested ‘Local Boy Nani’ following Sajjanar’s earlier warnings, leading to a 14-day remand. Similarly, a case has been registered against Telangana-based blogger Bhayya Sunny Yadav in Suryapet district, with authorities indicating that an arrest is forthcoming.
These developments have prompted social media influencers across the state to remove videos promoting betting apps from their accounts. With the IPL season approaching, concerns are rising about potential betting activities. Sajjanar’s vigilance is seen as a proactive measure to curb such practices and protect the youth from falling prey to gambling.
