Schools, colleges and banks closed in Telangana today for Guru Nanak Jayanti and Karthika Pournami

Hyderabad: Telangana observed a complete holiday today as banks, schools, and colleges closed for Guru Nanak Jayanti and Karthika Pournami. The state government declared a public holiday on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, while the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) included the date in its official list of holidays.

Banks shut across Telangana and several states

The RBI announced that banks in Telangana, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Nagaland, West Bengal, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jharkhand would close for the festivals. However, online and mobile banking services continued as usual.

The Telangana government also declared a holiday for government offices and educational institutions. Several private colleges had already closed to demand the immediate release of pending fee reimbursement and scholarship dues.

Citizens advised to plan banking work for Thursday

Because of the closures, public and financial activities slowed across Telangana. Officials advised citizens with pending bank work to visit branches on Thursday instead. The combined break gave residents a midweek respite and allowed them to celebrate the twin festivals peacefully.
