Hyderabad: Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), a key player in India’s coal sector, has been directed to pivot towards critical mineral exploration and non-conventional energy sources, leveraging its 136-year mining legacy to shape its next phase of growth.
Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu, who chaired a review meeting on Friday at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat, told SCCL officials to prepare a robust strategy for future expansion. With increasing global demand for strategic minerals like graphite, lithium, and copper, he called upon the company to grab every opportunity in mineral exploration and place itself competitively in these new sectors.
He mentioned that consultant agencies had already been hired to evaluate the feasibility of these ventures and was pleased with the progress achieved so far. The Deputy CM also instructed the formation of a dedicated committee led by experienced officers to steer the exploration process effectively.
Further emphasising the need to expand into non-traditional energy domains, he called for Singareni to explore renewable energy opportunities not only within its current operational zones but also in other parts of the country. The directive comes amid a growing national focus on clean energy sources and sustainability.
Citing a memorandum of understanding signed with Rajasthan, Vikramarka asked SCCL to finalise operational plans for setting up solar and thermal power plants in line with that agreement.
Among those who participated in the high-level meeting were Energy Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania, SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N. Balram Naik, the Deputy CM’s Special Secretary Krishna Bhaskar, and Singareni Executive Director Subhani.
