Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu has said that Singareni Collieries, with its 130-year legacy, must evolve beyond being a coal mine and become a mine of employment—generating thousands of jobs and securing a brighter future for generations to come.
Speaking at a programme held at Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Praja Bhavan on Friday evening, the Deputy Chief Minister distributed appointment letters to 21 individuals who benefited from a major policy change—raising the age limit for compassionate appointments from 35 to 40 years.
He noted that workers and trade unions had long demanded the age relaxation, and the government responded swiftly and humanely, enabling hundreds of families to benefit. “Providing employment to the unemployed is our government’s top priority,” he declared.
Cautioning against complacency, he said that discipline, hard work, and responsible conduct from every employee—from junior staff to the CMD—are vital for the growth of Singareni. He emphasised that passing on a thriving organisation to the next generation is a collective duty, and that failure to do so would be a grave loss.
Bhatti Vikramarka highlighted the growing competition Singareni faces in the open market and urged employees to reduce production costs and work full hours to maintain competitiveness. He stated that the company is now expanding into other sectors and regions, and that achieving success in these ventures depends on the dedication of all employees.
He advised newly appointed staff not to seek shortcuts or cushy postings, but to sincerely carry out their duties and contribute to the company’s development. On the same occasion, he announced that appointment letters under the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam scheme would be distributed on June 2, Telangana Formation Day. The ₹9,000 crore programme aims to generate large-scale self-employment and job creation for lakhs of youth across the state.
CMD of Singareni, Mr. N. Balaram, who chaired the event, said the government’s full support has led to a historic step in raising the age limit for compassionate appointments—a policy not seen anywhere else in the country. He credited this decision with bringing hope and relief to many families.
Recognised Workers’ Union General Secretary Mr. Raj Kumar called the age relaxation a landmark decision and thanked the government. He encouraged the newly appointed employees to be diligent and aim for future leadership roles.
INTUC Secretary General and State Minimum Wages Advisory Board Chairman Mr. B. Janak Prasad also praised the government’s commitment to worker welfare, citing the ₹5,000 bonus extended to contract workers and the unique age relaxation policy. He lauded Minister Bhatti Vikramarka for his visionary leadership and expressed optimism that under his stewardship, six new coal mines will soon be opened—creating 20,000 new jobs.
Also present at the event were Director (P\&P, Personnel) Mr. K. Venkateswarlu, Officers’ Association President Mr. Lakshmipathi Goud, GM (Personnel) IR, PM Ms. Kavitha Naidu, and other senior officials.
