Telangana Breaking News: In a significant development for Khammam district farmers, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has approved the revised budget for the Sitarama Project, aimed at improving irrigation facilities in the region.
HYDERABAD: On the occasion of Srirama Navami, Telangana’s Chief Minister Revanth Reddy sanctioned the revised budget for the Sitarama Project, bringing promising news to the farmers of Khammam district. Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageshwar Rao announced this approval, highlighting its potential to enhance agricultural productivity in the area.
The Sitarama Lift Irrigation Scheme, initially approved in February 2016 with an estimated budget of ₹7,926 crore by the then BRS government, underwent modifications over the years. In August 2018, the budget was revised to ₹13,057 crore to incorporate the Sitamma Sagar Multipurpose Project. The latest approval further revises the budget to ₹19,324.92 crore to accommodate additional project enhancements.
This project aims to provide irrigation water to 415,621 acres and stabilize an additional 389,366 acres across Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Mahabubabad districts. To date, approximately ₹10,000 crore has been expended on the project’s development.
In addition to the Sitarama Project, Chief Minister Reddy has approved the establishment of an Earth Sciences University in Kothagudem. The existing Mining College will be upgraded to form this new university, further contributing to the educational infrastructure of the region.
Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageshwar Rao and Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy have expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for these approvals, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting the agricultural community and enhancing educational opportunities in Telangana.
