Hyderabad: The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered a CBI probe into the sensational murder of advocate couple Gattu Vaman Rao and Gattu Nagamani in Telangana, shifting the investigation from state police. The court also directed that security be provided to Vaman Rao’s father, Gattu Kishan Rao.
The couple was hacked to death in broad daylight on February 17, 2021, near Manthani in Peddapalli district while travelling in their car. Kishan Rao had moved the Supreme Court in September 2021, seeking a CBI investigation.
State government raises no objection to CBI probe
During earlier hearings, the apex court asked the Telangana government to submit all case records, including videos. One such video, Vaman Rao’s dying declaration, went viral and was later confirmed as genuine by the Forensic Science Laboratory. The state government informed the court it had no objection to a CBI inquiry, leading to today’s order.
