HYDERABAD: Government Whip Adi Srinivas has lauded Telangana’s comprehensive caste survey, stating it has become a role model for the entire nation. Speaking at the Assembly media point on Tuesday, Srinivas highlighted that, unlike previous superficial surveys, the BRS government conducted a meticulous and accurate enumeration.
He noted that the success of Telangana’s integrated survey has sparked widespread demands across the country for similar caste-based enumerations. Srinivas mentioned that during recent parliamentary sessions, their leader, Rahul Gandhi, also advocated for a nationwide caste census.
The government established a dedicated committee, chaired by Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, to oversee the survey and ensure future challenges are mitigated. The findings revealed that 56.36% of the population comprises weaker sections. Consequently, a bill proposing 42% reservations for BCs in education, employment, and political sectors was approved, which Srinivas described as a fulfillment of their life’s purpose.
