HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has announced a compensation of ₹10,000 per acre under the crop loss compensation scheme for farmers affected by recent unseasonal rains and hailstorms. Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said that, according to preliminary estimates, 24,000 acres of agricultural land have been damaged, with the most affected districts being Siddipet, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, and Mahabubabad.
The minister stated that the state cabinet, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, has resolved to provide full relief to the affected farmers. He added that the departments of agriculture and horticulture have been directed to carry out accurate loss assessments at the individual farmer level to ensure fair compensation.
The government further clarified that although Telangana has joined the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, the scheme has not yet been implemented. Therefore, compensation will be provided from the state budget. While the central government prescribes ₹6,000 per acre, the Telangana government has decided to offer a higher amount of ₹10,000 per acre.
The compensation will cover damages to crops such as maize, paddy, and mangoes. Authorities have urged farmers to promptly submit details of their losses to the relevant departments so that payments can be processed directly into their bank accounts.
This decision underscores the state government’s commitment to farmer welfare and is expected to bring much-needed relief to those impacted by the recent weather events.
