12 Telangana migrant workers rescued from Jordan return home after BRS intervention

Hyderabad: Twelve migrant workers from Telangana who were stranded in dire conditions in Jordan returned safely to Hyderabad on Saturday, following a rescue operation led by former minister Harish Rao and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

Upon arrival, the workers visited Harish Rao at his residence to personally thank him for facilitating their return. Choking back emotion, they described how they had reached out to both central and state governments but received no response. “Only BRS stepped up. They saved our lives,” one worker stated.

The migrants, who belong to Jagtial, Nirmal, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, and Siddipet districts, said they had endured weeks without food, wages, or shelter. Harish Rao listened attentively to their stories and assured them that the BRS would help them find employment within the state.

To ensure their safe return to their villages, the party arranged special transportation for the group.

Harish Rao revealed that BRS took up the matter after learning about the workers’ situation and approached both the Indian Embassy and relevant authorities. However, when no support came, the party intervened, paid penalties, and coordinated their return.

He criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for failing to establish the promised Gulf Welfare Board or roll out a migrant welfare policy. “It’s been two years. No reviews, no support, and no action,” Rao said.

He also called on the eight BJP MPs and Union Ministers from Telangana to set up a dedicated cell within the Ministry of External Affairs to help Telugu workers in crisis abroad.

Reaffirming the party’s commitment, Harish Rao stated, “While elected governments turn away, BRS will continue to stand with the people. It’s not just about promises it’s about stepping up when it matters most.”
