HYDERABAD: Telangana has witnessed an unexpected and notable decline in power demand in recent days. Until recently, the public was struggling with intense heatwaves, but the recent spell of rainfall has brought much-needed relief, leading to a drop in the use of air conditioners, fans, and coolers.
With cooler temperatures prevailing, electricity consumption has naturally decreased. Additionally, the end of the Rabi crop season has reduced the electricity requirements of farmers, further contributing to the drop in demand. As a result, the state’s power demand, which stood at 17,162 megawatts on 20 March, has suddenly fallen to around 10,500 megawatts.
Over the past four days, power usage has consistently hovered around 10,539 megawatts. Compared to other districts, Hyderabad continues to record slightly higher electricity demand. On 20 March, the power consumption within the GHMC limits was 3,300 megawatts, which has now increased to 3,900 megawatts.
Minister for Energy Bhatti Vikramarka and senior officials are actively working to ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply across the state.
