Govt launches revenue system overhaul in Telangana: Ponguleti

Hyderabad: Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Saturday said the Telangana government has initiated a major reform of the revenue administration, targeting long-pending land issues through the implementation of the Bhu-Bharati Act.

At a review meeting with senior officials, he said the Bhu-Bharati Act was brought in to replace the ROR Act of 2020 and is aimed at providing lasting solutions to land-related disputes. He said the current revenue overhaul was necessary due to what he described as a decade of mismanagement under the previous BRS government.

The Minister cited the Revenue Sadassulu campaign as evidence of systemic problems faced by farmers. He said more than 10 lakh land-related applications had been received across three phases of the campaign.

The Act was launched on April 14 by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and is being rolled out in phases. In the first phase, from April 17 to 30, 72 Sadassulu in four mandals collected 12,000 applications. The second phase began on May 5, covering 414 Sadassulu in 28 mandals and yielding 46,000 applications.

Between June 3 and 20, Revenue Sadassulu were conducted in 10,239 villages across 561 mandals, collecting 8 lakh applications. In total, 10,725 Sadassulu have been held in 593 mandals, with 8.58 lakh applications filed so far.

Ponguleti said 60 percent of issues had been addressed, excluding those involving Sadabainama claims. District-wise, Khammam had the highest number of applications at 67,000, followed by Bhadradri Kothagudem (61,000), Warangal (54,000), Jayashankar Bhupalapally (48,000), and Nalgonda (42,000).

He said application forms were distributed in advance in villages and collected free of charge by revenue teams under the supervision of Mandal Revenue Officers. So far, 3.27 lakh applications have been registered online. The remaining are in process, he said, with instructions issued to officials to speed up entries.
