Hyderabad: Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar postponed the MLA disqualification hearings that were scheduled for today and tomorrow. He fixed new dates for November 14 and 15 after holding internal consultations, according to sources.
The case involves MLAs who joined other parties after the 2023 Assembly elections. BRS leaders approached the Supreme Court and demanded immediate action against them. The court directed the Speaker to finish the disqualification process within three months. Following that order, the Speaker issued notices and began personal hearings for each legislator.
Telangana Speaker seeks more time from Supreme Court
The Speaker planned to hear petitions from T. Venkat Rao and Sanjay today but deferred them. He also postponed the hearings of Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Arikepudi Gandhi, originally set for November 13.
BRS leaders accused the Speaker of ignoring the Supreme Court’s timeline. They filed a contempt petition claiming he violated the court’s directive. The Supreme Court agreed to hear their plea.
The Speaker also filed a petition seeking extra time to complete the disqualification process. The court will hear his plea on November 14 and take up the contempt case on Monday.
