Hyderabad: Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar has issued notices to six MLAs from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) who recently joined the ruling Congress party. The action marks the first formal step in addressing the defections under assembly rules.
The MLAs served with notices are Sanjay, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Kale Yadaiah, Tellam Venkat Rao, Bandla Krishnamohan Reddy, and Gudem Mahipal Reddy. All six moved to Congress after it came to power in the state.
Kadiyam Srihari defends move, questions BRS ethics
Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari, who also shifted from BRS to Congress, defended his decision during a press meet in Hanumakonda on Friday. He said he joined the Congress to push for development in his constituency, not for political gain.
Srihari criticised BRS leaders for attacking the defectors. He pointed out that under the previous regime, K. Chandrashekar Rao inducted 36 MLAs from other parties, and two of them were even made ministers. “Did anyone resign back then?” he asked, calling out what he termed selective outrage.
He also noted that his move had already helped secure development funds for Station Ghanpur. He confirmed receiving the Speaker’s notice but maintained that public interest was his only motive.
