HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has transferred the ongoing investigation into the promotion of betting applications to the Special Investigation Team (SIT). This decision was announced by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy during a recent Assembly session, emphasizing the state’s commitment to preventing addictive behaviors among its citizens.
The case has garnered significant attention, involving prominent actors, anchors, and YouTube influencers who allegedly promoted these betting apps. Initially, the Panjagutta and Miyapur police stations registered cases under the Telangana Gaming Act and the Information Technology Act against these individuals.
Government counsel informed the court that all cases related to betting apps have now been handed over to the SIT for a comprehensive investigation. Police have provided the necessary details to the SIT to facilitate this process.
The promotion of betting apps has led to financial losses among the youth, with some cases resulting in suicides. Authorities are treating the matter with utmost seriousness to address these concerns and prevent further incidents.
