Telangana prioritises welfare and development equally, says minister

Hyderabad: Telangana Revenue, Housing, and Information Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Tuesday said the state government is giving equal priority to welfare and development under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s leadership, even as financial constraints persist.

During his visit to Khammam Rural mandal, the minister laid foundation stones for several infrastructure works. These included ₹30 lakh for internal CC roads in Kondapuram village, ₹3.58 crore for a BT road from Khammam-Suryapet R&B road via Tallampadu to Teldarupalli, and ₹35 lakh for additional internal roads in Tallampadu.

Welfare and development continue in Kondapuram

Speaking at the event, Reddy said Kondapuram had already received ₹64.5 lakh worth of CC roads over the past 21 months. With the latest approvals, the total allocation for internal roads in the village has reached ₹94.5 lakh.

He announced that tenders were issued for a ₹7.5 crore bridge between Kondapuram and Motapuram and a ₹5.2 crore BT road from Ponnekal to Kondapuram. Both projects will begin soon.

He also said a ₹20 lakh primary health centre was completed in Kondapuram, along with ₹25 lakh in permanent repair works at the Pedda Kunta lake. In total, the village received ₹14.11 crore for development works in 21 months.

Welfare schemes move ahead despite financial strain

Reddy noted that the Congress government had fulfilled its poll promises to low-income families. The state now provides 200 units of free electricity to women-led households, offers subsidised rice through ration cards since Ugadi, and allows women to travel free on state buses.

He added that the government waived ₹21,000 crore in farm loans during its first year, benefitting 25 lakh farmers. It also introduced a ₹500 bonus per quintal over the MSP for fine rice.

Housing support under Indiramma scheme

Reddy criticised the previous government for neglecting housing needs. He said the Congress administration had approved 4.5 lakh houses in its first phase. Kondapuram received 30 of those homes. Additional Indiramma houses will be allotted to other eligible households in the next phases.

The event drew participation from PR SE Venkat Reddy, R&B SE Yakub, District Agriculture Officer G. Pullayya, Khammam RDO Narasimha Rao, and several Congress leaders including K.M. Venkata Reddy, Bandi Jagadish, Dandyala Venkateswara Rao, and Thota Veerabhadram.
