Hyderabad: The Telangana Human Rights Commission has directed immediate action and compensation following the death of a 10-year-old boy in Jadcherla due to an exposed roadside transformer. In an order dated July 14 (HRC.No.2650/2025), the Commission held TGTRANSCO vicariously liable and recommended ₹5 lakh be paid to the child’s family.
Master B. Shreyan died after coming into contact with an unprotected 160KV transformer by the roadside. Shockingly, the same spot had already seen the deaths of a cow and a stray dog yet no action was taken by the authorities.
The Commission, chaired by Dr. Justice Shameem Akther, has issued four directions to TGTRANSCO’s CMD:
Submit a full report on the condition and safety of all transformers in the state.
Institute preventive and routine inspection mechanisms.
Investigate negligence by local officials and initiate departmental proceedings within 60 days.
File a compliance report with the Commission within 90 days.
The TGHRC’s order comes amid growing public concern over unsafe electrical infrastructure and repeated cases of official inaction.
