HYDERABAD: Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Private Limited (TTDI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Japan’s Toshiba Corporation, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Telangana to drive investment and innovation in the power transmission and distribution (T&D) sector.
The agreement will see TTDI establish a new manufacturing unit for surge arresters and expand its current facilities for power and distribution transformers and gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) at its Rudraram plant near Hyderabad. The initiative marks a ₹562 crore investment aimed at enhancing technological capabilities and manufacturing capacity in the T&D sector.
The MoU was signed by Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Government of Telangana, and Hiroshi Furuta, Chairman and Managing Director of TTDI, in the presence of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Hiroshi Kaneta, Director of Energy Business, Toshiba Corporation, during a high-level investment meeting in Tokyo.
“This investment reflects TTDI’s continued commitment to delivering innovative products and solutions for the transmission and distribution sector while reinforcing Telangana’s status as a leading destination for global technology and industrial investment,” said Furuta.
The new investment will incorporate cutting-edge technologies and expand TTDI’s manufacturing footprint to meet growing domestic and global demand. The initiative aligns with Telangana’s strategy to attract high-value investments, boost industrial capabilities, strengthen the power sector, and generate employment opportunities.
Commenting on the development, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that Telangana remains a key player in India’s economic transformation, drawing global investments through strategic collaborations. “Toshiba’s new investment is a vote of confidence in Telangana’s industrial ecosystem and underlines the momentum of the state’s growth story,” he said.
Furuta further added, “Telangana’s forward-looking policies, robust industrial framework, and innovation-led approach make it an ideal location for our expansion. This collaboration will help us accelerate economic growth, develop a skilled workforce, and shape the future of India’s power sector.”
The initiative supports TTDI’s broader vision to design and manufacture T&D products for high-voltage applications within India, under the Government of India’s “Make in India” initiative. TTDI currently operates two plants at Rudraram and plans to establish three additional facilities while upgrading existing ones to meet international demand.
TTDI supplies a comprehensive range of T&D equipment for both conventional and renewable energy sectors, including power transformers, distribution transformers, GIS, and inverter duty transformers. With this investment, TTDI is set to strengthen its position as a global manufacturing hub for Toshiba’s energy solutions.
